It is clear to me now that it makes more sense to purchase items locally if possible, when the items are non-returnable and non-refundable due to special shipping and handling requirements.
My particular fire extinguisher arrived from Amazon needing a recharge.
Whoever packaged the charger placed it into an oversized box with far less bubble wrap than was needed. Since I could turn the unopened box over and feel the contents flop around it was no surprise to find that the top of the extinguisher had torn its way through its original box and that the trigger was scuffed.
If deciding to mail-order this item , it's good to keep in mind that shipping regulations do not allow for expedited shipping modes. Pressurized items like fire extinguishers must be sent by the ground transportation, even if the contents are non-toxic. Mine took 6 week-days to arrive.
